Lung Cancer Screening Program
According to the National Lung Screening Trial, screening high-risk individuals yearly with a low-dose CT imaging scan can prevent one in five deaths from lung cancer. MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper offers lung cancer screening to detect the disease at its earliest stage, when treatment is most effective.
For our lung cancer screening program, a multidisciplinary team of experts — from pulmonary medicine and thoracic surgery to radiation oncology and smoking cessation specialists — reviews each case. You may be eligible for lung cancer screening if you:
- Are 50 - 80 years of age
- Are a current smoker or former smoker who has quit within the past 15 years
- Have a smoking history of 20 pack years (one pack year is equal to smoking one pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years or two packs of cigarettes a day for 10 years
